Recurrent stereotypes in magazines for teenagers at the beginning of the eighties and today-the media image of parents

The bachelor thesis "Repeating Stereotypes in Youth Magazines in Early 1980s and Today - Media Image of Parents" deals with a content analysis of two magazines, Sedmička pionýrů and Bravo Girl, focusing on the image of parents created by these magazines. The theoretical part explains the terms stereotype and media image and describes the content analysis method. It also deals with mental development of teenagers and the influence of the media. This part presents the results of several studies focused on the media preferences of teenagers. Finally it provides information about the history of the above magazines, their characteristics and a description of the individual sections. On the example of Sedmička pionýrů the thesis describes how political situation and changes in society affect the magazine's form and content. The part devoted to the Bravo Girl magazine concentrates, among other things, on girls magazines in general, on the language they use and on their effect on young girls. The analytical part describes the processing of the content analysis and its results including charts and tables. It tries to answer the question whether the images of parents show stereotypes and whether these stereotypes repeat themselves over time.
The influence of print media and school on adolescent girls self-concept

This diploma thesis deals with the influence of teenage girl magazines and school on the self-concept of adolescent girls. Theoretical part aims to bring comprehensive review of current scientific research on the topic of development of self-identity during adolescence where self-concept is created with strong emphasis on physical appearance. The thesis subsequently examine possible disorders that can arise from erroneous self-concept. The impact of printed media and especially girl magazines, on components of adolescent girl's self-concept is considered. School and educational system as another important contributor in development of self-concept is reflected in my thesis as well. Experimental aims to explore which areas of self-concept and girls behavior are influenced by girl magazines most significantly and whether educational system takes girl magazines into consideration during educational process. In order to collect necessary data the experiment was concluded with sixty respondents, which were instructed to valuate several body parts before and after the exposition to the picture from girl magazine capturing fashion ideal of woman body. Comparison of language and style of interviews in girls' and women's magazines

This bachelor thesis is focused on comparison of language and style of interviews in girl's and womens' magazines. The intention of this thesis is to find out the differences and correspondences between the both types of magazines. General characteristic of an interview summarizing the information about range, lead paragraphs and pictorial component is in the introduction part of the thesis. The first part of the thesis explores an interview from language aspect - the particular language levels are analyzed here. The second part of the thesis explores an interview from communication aspect - the relationships among participants of communication, ways of asking questions and ways of responsing to them are described here. The end of this thesis contains the summary of results from both mentioned aspects.
Analysis of the first and the last year of the Bravo magazine and comparison of the content

This work aims to determine whether the content and main topics in the Czech version of Bravo magazine have changed over time. The aim is to analyze the contents of the Bravo magazine in the first and last year of its existence. Quantitative content analysis is used for this research. Advertisements, their occurrence and their size are also investigated. Subsequently, the results of these analyzes are interpreted, compared for the purpose of determining how these two years varied between each other, whether the topics presented changed. Magazines for teenage girls are a specific type of periodicals that enjoyed great popularity in their target audience. These magazines often create in young audience specific idea about the world around them, their effect on the reader is great. At the same time, the views of the world and the topics presented in these journals are often very specific, profiled. The most famous girl magazine is Bravo magazine. Its Czech mutation was published from 1991 until 2015, when it was canceled due to declining sales. What girls want? The picture of their world in magazines Super Dívka and BravoGirl!

The aim of the diploma thesis What do the girls want? The reflection of their world in the magazines Super Dívka and BravoGirl! is to analyze the representation of lifestyle in the magazines for girls and the evolution of this representation within fifteen years. For the needs of this work, the individual theoretical concepts have been discussed, in order to better understand the problematics of media representation of reality. We defined notions such as social and media construction of reality, theory of representation, gender, stereotypes, myths and ideology. Other chapters are dedicated to the notion of lifestyle from its sociological and media perspective, to the girls' magazines themselves and to their up to now researches. These researches are concerned especially with the problematics of consolidation of gender stereotypes in the society through proposed patterns of behaviour and creation of norms of femininity. The Magazines for Adolescent Girls as a Risk Factor of Negative Body Image and Eating Disorders

The diploma thesis titled The Magazines for Adolescent Girls as a Risk Factor of Negative Body Image and Eating Disorders discusses a possible influence of the girl's magazines on adolescent girls' body satisfaction. The thesis is divided into two parts theoretical and practical. The theoretical part focuses on theoretical definition of the main issue and further it presents the results and findings that were the starting point of the overall focus of the thesis. This part is divided into five chapters when each chapter focuses on the theoretical definition of the specific area. These areas are the period of adolescence, self-concept, body image, factors that may influence adolescents' body image and finally girls' magazines which are considered as a risk factor of adolescents' body dissatisfaction due to its contents. The diploma thesis reflects the important findings related to the main issue which are served as the basis for the following practical part. The second, practical part of this diploma thesis, is presented as an empirical investigation focuses on a possible influence of the girl's magazines on adolescent girls' body satisfaction and on the overall body satisfaction with adolescent girls' bodies. Within this empirical investigation are set questions that the investigation tries to answered. The results of the empirical investigation are divided into three parts according to the method that was used in a particular part of investigation. In thesis was used these methods: Silhouette Test, questionnaire and analysis of the text and image content of the most popular girl's magazines in connection with the theoretical focus of the thesis.
